Music Review: Greg Kihn’s ‘With the Naked Eye’

If hook-laden, high-energy rock and roll is what the doctor ordered, by all means, fill your prescription with this latest offering from the Greg Kihn Band. Featuring originals plus tunes by Bruce Springsteen and Jonathan Richman, the well-produced With the Naked Eye proves Kihn’s facility for turning a phrase and for rocking hard without ever neglecting melody. The whole affair is extremely basic—no strings, no sax, no synthesizers, no credited studio sidemen—but the harmonies are exhilarating and the rhythmic, inflammatory music should be sufficiently full-bodied and accessible to please just about any rock fan.
