Almost exactly five years ago, Gerry Rafferty‘s now-defunct Stealers Wheel hit the top 10 with the catchy “Stuck in the Middle with You.” The superbly produced and generously long City to City is the first I’ve heard from him since then, and it’s even better than the 1973 chart-climber. “Baker Street,” a guitar-and-sax showcase that has become a major hit single, currently rates as my favorite track. But I’m also fond of the Beatlesque, addictively hooked “Right Down the Line.” And there’s not a rotten apple in the bunch.
