Music Review: Procol Harum’s ‘Something Magic’

Procol Harum's Something Magic

Though nothing here possesses the majesty of “Whiter Shade of Pale” or packs the punch of “Power Failure,” the bulk of Something Magic speaks well for Procol Harum’s continued musical viability. Gary Brooker sings with renewed force on the LP, and the piano and organ that dominated vintage Procol sets are successfully back on top. The lyrics, though, hardly seem worthy of the album’s moniker; “The Worm and the Tree,” the allegorical worst of the lot, sounds like a product of Donovan at his silliest.
