Art Garfunkel never misses a note, but only “My Little Town” (with Paul Simon) and Stevie Wonder’s “I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever)” receive powerful treatment here. The latter reading owes much to Richard Perry’s production; for the most part, though, Perry’s find-a-groove-and-stick-to-it philosophy only heightens Garfunkel’s dilemma. Approaching most of these tunes with an emotionless proficiency, the singer couldn’t help but create an album of tracks that are as weak and indistinguishable as they are technically impressive.
