Banjo aficionados should delight in this album from Art Rosenbaum, whose consummate work on the instrument can also be heard on several other LPs and the Cool Hand Luke soundtrack. An avid collector of folklore and music, the artist offers a crop of tunes that proves as historically fascinating as it is entertaining. The only scratch on the record may be Rosenbaum’s undistinguished voice, but his instrumental prowess renders that factor relatively unimportant. Among the 19 selections: a lively, square-dance-ready “Sally Goodin”; “Charming Moony Brannigan/Teetotaller’s Fancy,” a pair of Irish reels; and the well-known “John Henry.”
