Buffy Sainte-Marie’s ‘Native North American Child: An Odyssey’

The pickings must be sparse, because the only two cuts here that were never previously released fill a combined total of three minutes and two seconds of playing time.

Still, if you don’t own any of the Vanguard albums from which the other tunes were culled, this one makes a nice introduction to Buffy’s music. The focus is on the period when she was singing about her Cree Indian background and the songs include “Now That the Buffalo’s Gone,” “My Country Tis of Thy People You’re Dying” and the excellent “Soldier Blue.”
