An Absurd Cover of Brewer & Shipley’s ‘One Toke Over the Line’

If you lived through the 1960s and ’70s, you probably knew what Brewer and Shipley were singing about in “One Toke Over the Line.” But Lawrence Welk was apparently clueless, as were Gale and Dale, the couple who performed the song on Welk’s show. After they finished singing, Welk proclaimed the song “a modern spiritual.” Could this be the most absurd interpretation of a pop/rock hit ever? Maybe not, but it’s up there on the list…
