A Phil Spector Demo Recording

Phil Spector sang in the background with the Teddy Bears on “To Know Him Is to Love Him,” then turned his focus completely to production. So who knew how well he could sing? Not me. This recently discovered (by me, anyway) demo recording of his “Spanish Harlem” is a revelation—this even surpasses the classic Ben E. King version in my opinion.

  1. yep you’re right it’s great to hear Spector’s version and he has a great voice nicely laconic phrasing. Thanks for sharing it! Do you know if it’s available on an LP? I can’t find it anywhere and heard it on the radio about ten years ago and it stuck with me.

    • Thanks for your comment. As far as I know, it’s not available on disc. If you ever find it, please post info here–I’d like a copy myself of this and any other early Spector demos.
