England’s Jam has never quite fulfilled its promise, perhaps partly because it has never fully escaped from the shadow of the Who, its biggest obvious influence. Still, the new-wave trio has served up some memorable rockers in its six-year career; and you’ll find live versions of 14 of the best of them on Dig the New Breed. Though news of the group’s breakup accompanies the LP, incidentally, fans can look forward to more in 1983, including previously unreleased material, repackaged oldies, and a solo set from Jam leader Paul Weller.
