Yes, there are amiable moments on Diana, but a Diana Ross album should offer more than moments, especially when she has the help of the gang from Chic. The backup crew on this LP often sounds as if it is playing in its sleep, and the songs range from second-rate disco to third-rate Vegas. As for Ross’s vocals, she rarely seems to perk up. Much of her solo work has been laudable, but her singing on Diana will likely leave you pining for the Supremes.
