Yes, there are moments on Diana, but a Diana Ross album should offer more than moments, especially when she has the help of the gang from Chic. The backup crew on this LP often sounds as if it is playing in its sleep, and the songs range from second-rate disco to third-rate Vegas. As for Ross’s vocals, she rarely seems to perk up; I’ve liked much of her solo work, but her singing on Diana leaves me pining for the Supremes.
