Music Review: ‘Get the Knack’ Is Pretty Good Advice

Skeptics have credited the Knack‘s success to everything from hype to a style and lineup that evidence superficial links to the Beatles. But the two outfits rarely sound much alike. At their best on Get the Knack, moreover, the group easily counters charges of hype with originality and pop intelligence. True, “Maybe Tonight” seems like leftover Raspberries and there are a few other clunkers here as well. But tightly knit odes to teenage lust like “My Sharona,” “Good Girls Don’t,” and “Oh, Tara” rank among at least half a dozen compelling reasons to “get the Knack.”
