Robert Gordon Wraps Up a ‘Fresh Fish Special’

Posted by

ImageOn Fresh Fish Special, his second solo album, former punk rocker Robert Gordon again joins forces with semi-legendary 50s guitarist Link Wray as well as producer Richard Gottehrer and ex-Dylan cohorts Rob Stoner and Howie Wyeth. In addition, the new LP features backup vocals by Elvis Presley’s Jordanaires and a piano guest spot by Bruce Springsteen, who wrote “Fire,” the side-one closer. Not many artists could make sense (not to mention music) out of such a motley crew, but Gordon pulls it off. If you like Presley’s Sun sides—or rockabilly in general—you’re bound to love his LP’s affectionate, wonderfully anachronistic renditions of tunes like “The Way I Walk” (by Jack Scott), “Sea Cruise” (Huey Smith), and “I Want to Be Free” (Leiber and Stoller).
