Granted, Tommy James’s Midnight Rider album has nothing new to say musically, and its lyrics won’t keep you up nights pondering double or even single meanings. But if, like me, you’re a sucker for emotionally charged, hook-filled pop ballads, the LP should be right up your alley. Well produced by Jeff Barry, who shared songwriting chores with James, the set features the singer’s best vocal work to date and a large dose of potentially hit-bound love tunes.
