Unless her voice gives out, producer Brian Ahern waves goodbye, or she loses her facility for picking first-rate material, Emmylou Harris seems unlikely to ever make a less-than-superb album. Still, this third effort is surprisingly good, primarily because the singer has expanded her repertoire and proven that her voice is as versatile as it is exhilarating. In addition to the expected dose of country tunes, including two by Harris mentor Gram Parsons, Luxury Liner features such well-delivered rockers as Chuck Berry’s “You Never Can Tell) C’est La Vie.”
