Music Review: Johnny Bristol’s ‘Bristol’s Creme’

Johnny Bristol's Bristol's Creme

Having already made his mark and millions as the writer/producer of many Motown hits, Johnny Bristol turned recording artist in 1974 with equally impressive results. Granted, his lyrics can occasionally be as banal as Barry White’s. But his flexible, arresting vocals, inviting melodies, and lavish productions are good enough to keep me in a forgiving mood. And while this latest set contains nothing as potent as “Hang On in There, Baby,” Bristol’s largest hit as a performer to date, it well deserves the fans’ attention.
