Music Review: Electric Light Orchestra’s ‘A New World Record’

ELO's A New World Record

A New World Record is arguably not all new. Its version of “Do Ya,” the Move favorite, evidences little variation from the original, and throughout this album, Electric Light Orchestra eschews tampering with the formula that fueled its previous Face the Music and Eldorado. I can’t blame the group, though. Combining lush orchestral effects and hard-rock beats with breathtaking production effects and knockout hooks, its formula is one of rock’s most potent. Best cut: “Tightrope.”
