You won’t find anybody named Thompson in the credits for the Thompson Twins‘ Side Kicks, but then, you may not get many kicks out of it, either. The group’s sprightly U.S. debut, In the Name of Love, did suggest a noteworthy alternative to some of the Twins’ overly electronic-oriented competitors. Now, though, the band has shrunk from seven to three members, and the ones who remain sound less distinctive and more dependent on synthesizers. Still, it’s hard not to tap your feet and hum along to numbers like “Lies” and “We Are Detective.”
