The first Christmas album of the season this year is also bound to be remembered as one of the best. Certainly, Give Love at Christmas is the most listenable work I’ve heard in years from the Temptations, the 1960s’ most successful male Motown group, whose recent releases have been disco-oriented and only sporadically noteworthy. Expect superb falsettos and harmonies, a batch of catchy new carols, and innovatively arranged readings of evergreens like “Little Drummer Boy” and “The Christmas Song.”
