Rainbow is billed as a “totally new musical spectrum” for Ritchie Blackmore, a founder of and former lead guitarist for Deep Purple. But his riffs on the lead-off cut here are incredibly similar to those on “Smoke on the Water,” and it’s all downhill from there. The “rainbow” sounds more like a bland black and white.
